Susanta Mondal, a 45-year-old car driver by profession, arrived in the lake area near Lekh Thana on July 30th at 2:30 PM. He went to a shop adjacent to Dakuriya Lake area to buy liquor. Unfortunately, he was killed due to a violent altercation over some money at the shop.
The incident of purchasing liquor on July 30th, Sunday, became the focal point of heated protests and clashes in the area surrounding Dhakuria Lake. Later, the local police brought in a massive force to control the situation. As a result of this violent incident, approximately four individuals have been arrested, as reported by the local police.

A 45-year-old Sushant Mondal, who worked as a driver, went to a woman's shop near Dhakuria Lake on July 30th, Sunday afternoon, to buy alcohol. After purchasing the alcohol, he had a dispute with the shopkeeper over 5 taka change, but the argument was resolved quickly. However, a few moments later, four workers from the shop attacked the customer and brutally beat him. The entire incident was captured on the local CCTV camera. Due to the severe beating, Sushant was taken to a private clinic, where the doctors declared him dead.
As a result of the killing, tension spread across the area with local residents protesting in front of the shop and vandalizing it. The protesters threw liquor bottles onto the street. Upon receiving the news, local police officials, including Subhankar Bhattacharya, the Deputy Commissioner of the South-East Division, arrived at the scene. Seeing the police, the agitators began to show their displeasure. Subsequently, the local police conducted a search operation and recovered evidence from a room adjacent to the murdered shop worker's residence.
In the investigation, the police initially arrested two shop workers named Prabhat Dutt and Prasenjit Baidya. Later, two more, Debojyoti Saha and Amit Kar, were also arrested as shop workers. The police revealed that among the arrested, Debojyoti Saha was the owner of the shop and the other three were shop employees.
The locals demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and protested vehemently, creating a tense situation in the Dhakuria Lake area. After about an hour, additional reinforcements arrived to bring the situation under control. The police managed the crowd, and eventually, they took the accused shop owner and the three shop workers into custody.
Based on the written complaint, the police have taken responsibility for investigating the murder case of the deceased Sushant Mandal. His wife and two children are currently staying at their residence. Sushant's son is a 10th-grade student at Lake High School and used to work as a driver for a doctor. On Sunday, Sushant went out to buy alcohol during the afternoon, and the incident occurred afterward. A relative of the deceased informed the media and provided information from the hospital. No phone call has been received from the shop since then.
They claim that the son-in-law is not responsible for any wrongdoing and demand punishment for the culprits. The deceased's body has already been sent for a post-mortem examination. Three employees, including the shop owner, have been arrested by an investigative officer. CCTV footage is being examined, and there are indications of some old enmity behind the incident.
