Md Hasan Mahmood was born on 5 June 1963 in Chittagong district of Bangladesh (which was part of East Pakistan before 1971). He realized the importance of education at an early age.
Education : - completed his graduation in chemistry from Chittagong University in 1987 and post graduation in chemistry in 1989. Subsequently, in 1996, Vrij obtained a second master's degree in environmental science from the University of Brussels, and a doctorate in environmental science. He joined Bangladesh Student League while studying in college in 1977.

Mohammad Hasan Mahmud first joined Bangladesh student league as a student in 1977. From 1996-2000 served as a parliamentary and political advisor to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In 2008, Chittagong was elected as the national parliament from six Lok Sabha constituencies and served as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cabinet. Later, he was appointed as Minister of Environment and Forests. Then in 2014 and 2019 he was also elected as an MP. In 2019, he was appointed as the Information and Broadcasting Minister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after his election to Parliament.He currently holds that position.
