Zakir Hossain, the former minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress member and MLA from Jangipur, Murshidabad, was attacked by Income Tax last Wednesday, January 11.
He deals in bidi and rice in Murshidabad. His bidi company name is Shiva bidi. He also has multiple businesses including rice mills, his company employs a total of 7,000 workers.
On Wednesday January 11, the Income Tax Department raided him, Artha Tajrul and his house and factory and warehouse, Red Murray, on suspicion of non-payment of income tax.
After searching for 10 hours, the officials recovered cash worth 8 crore rupees from inside the warehouse of Zakir Hossain Shiv Bidi factory.
Also, a search of his house and other rice warehouses found cash amounting to around five and a half crore rupees. It has been informed by the income department that there is no written form.
Zakir Hossain, the owner of the beedi company in Murshidabad and Trinamool Congress, said that all the money belongs to the company's workers or farmers.
He alleged that the Income Tax Department had gone to his house and confiscated his wife's personal money. Also, even though he had valid documents, the authorities did not accept them.
The next day, Zakir Naik faced the media and said that he deals in bidir and rice. A total of more than 7000 workers work for him and they are paid in cash.
And about Tk 5 crore recovered from the warehouse of his rice mill, he said that the agricultural sector was traded in cash. All the money for buying paddy and paying the farmers.
