Gurpreet Kaur Deo was born in 1969 in Punjab, India. His father was a farmer from Punjab, was very talented in education from childhood. After his secondary examination, he dreamed of becoming a civil servant in India.

 After graduating in Economics, he came to Delhi to prepare for the Civil Services Examination and after his tireless efforts, he got selected into the Indian Police Service (IPS) on 5 September 1993 at the age of just 24.

After that, he was given various posts by the Punjab government, each of which he handled very skillfully. In 2023, she was appointed the first woman Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab.
