Minga Sherpa was born in 1990 in a middle-class family in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. He completed his education in a local school in Darjeeling, he was interested in sports while studying at school. After completing his school education, he entered the university for higher education, and graduated with a degree in biology in 2012. After completing his education, he wanted to join the Indian Administrative Service, accordingly he started preparing for the entrance exam UPSC Union Public Civil Service Examination to join the Indian Administrative Service. In 2017, after nearly four attempts, he passed as an Indian Administrative Service Officer and joined the Indian Administrative Service. Government of India assigned him to Jammu and Kashmir cadre.
