Vijay Prabhakar Alagarswami was born in 1993 in a middle class family in Tamil Nadu, India. He was born in the family of late actor and politician Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha. He completed his primary education at a local English medium school in Tamil Nadu. After his education, he got attracted to acting and started his acting career, producing films at the same time. Currently, he is the youth leader of Desiya Murpokku Darvidar Kazhagam Party (DMDK) along with his father.

In 2015, he made his acting debut with the film Sagapatham produced by his father's production company "Captain Cine Creations". The film is an option movie where he plays the role of a spy, he plays an Indian village youth who goes to Malaysia and becomes a spy from there. The film did well at the box office.
In 2020, Vijay Prabhakar starred (as an idealistic police officer) in the action thriller Thamilsaran, directed by producer Yogeswaran. In this film, an idealistic police officer hijacks a hospital to save a baby boy. This film starred popular actors like Suresh Gopi and Shono Bhor. The movie was a moderate success at the box office.
After that he acted in various films one after the other with moderate success. After 10 years of acting, he has set up his own company where he directs his own films. His film production company is VGP Productions, he has produced two films named Thamilsaraan and Biran and several web series.

Vijayakanth is a popular actor in the Indian Tamil film industry and a popular politician in the state of Tamil Nadu. She acted in more than 150 Tamil films in the Tamil film industry, winning several awards for her acting skills. He founded a political party called DMDK in 2011, from 2011 to 2016 his political party DMDK was the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu state.
