Lieutenant Gaurav Yadav was born in 1998 in a low-class farming family in Bas village of Jojo in Alor district of Rajasthan. His father is a small farmer, and his mother is a housewife. Gaurav Yadav completed his primary education from Kerala Public School, Rewari, Haryana, Gaurav Yadav was very talented in studies and sports since childhood.

 When he was in class six on his way to school, he would see several grandfathers jogging in a large field, ever since he wanted to grow up and join the Indian Army. As he was good at studies, he studied science subjects after secondary, passed the board examination with 96 percent marks in higher secondary. 

After that his family members wanted Gaurav to study through IIT entrance exam, despite his desire to go to IIT he succeeded in IIT entrance exam according to his family but he lied to his family. 

He said he failed the IIT entrance test, after which he got admission in a university in Delhi and at the same time started studying at the National Defense Academy. His strong will and desire to join the Indian Army made him a President's Gold Medalist in the 143rd course of the National Defense Academy on 4 December 2023.

Gaurav Yadav completed his primary education from Kerala Public School, Rewari, Haryana, he passed his class twelve board examination with 96 percent marks.
