Tapasi Roy was born on March 14, 1993 in a middle-class family in Cooch Behar. Completed schooling from local school, graduated from Cooch Behar College. In 2013, she got married to Indian CRPF jawan Jagannath Roy. Jagannath Roy was one of the 40 suicide bombers killed in the 2019 Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bombing in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

After the death of BJP MLA Bishnupad Roy, by-elections are going to be held again in Dhupaguri constituency. Elections will be held on September 5 and the results will be announced on September 8. Mithali Roy was the Trinamool Congress candidate in Dhupaguri assembly election in 2021 and her rival was Bishnupad Roy. Trinamool Congress candidate Mithali Roy got 100333 percent 44% votes, BJP candidate Bishnupad Roy got 104688 percent 46% votes.   

BJP's candidate Bishnupad Roy became the MLA by getting 4355 more than three votes. A few days ago he came to Kolkata to attend the assembly session. But he died suddenly on July 25 due to physical illness. 

After that, Dhupaguri Assembly Constituency MLA remained vacant for almost two months. The Election Commission of India has announced the by-election to the Dhupaguri assembly seat on Tuesday, September 5. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidate for the Dhupaguri by-election on Tuesday, September 4. 

The name of the candidate is Taapsee Roy, wife of CRPF jawan Jagannath Roy who died in Pulwama terror attack. In 2019, Jai-e-Mohammed terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama killed around 40 Indian CRPF jawans. Taapsee Roy's husband Jagannath Roy was one of the 40 dead CRPF jawans. Thirty-three-year-old Taapsee Roy lives in Dhupaguri area of Burdwan, and has a four-year-old child.

 Taapsee Roy has been chosen by the BJP despite not being active in politics. After revealing the name, Taapsee told the media that she wants to develop the area and also want to provide healthy services to the people.
