Indian police officer Arun Kumar Sinha was born in 1962 to a lower middle class family in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, India. His father Mahendra Prasad was an Indian Army. He did his schooling from Hazaribagh Hindu School, completed his graduation from St. Columbus College, Hazaribagh. After completing his education he started preparing for the Indian Civil Service Exam and succeeded in the first attempt. Arun Kumar Sinha got Kerala cadre as an IPS.

He passed UPSC in 1987 and was appointed as IPS in Kerala cadre. He started his career as a police officer as a Superintendent of Police, after which he served as the Commissioner of Police in Trivandrum and Koching for a few years. He served as DIG and IG for several years, from 2009 to 2000 14 he served as IG of BSF in Gujarat Frontier. He has played an important role in solving important cases like death threats to Prime Minister and President through email and letter bomb cases.

Kerala cadre IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha was suffering from cancer for a long time and was undergoing treatment. On September 4, he suddenly felt ill and was taken to Vedanta Hospital in Gur village. He died after being admitted there for 24 hours.
