• Who is Swapon Deep Kundu ? 

Swapon Deep Kundu was a first-year student in the Bengali department at Jadavpur University. He used to reside in the hostel of Jadavpur University. On August 9, 2023, Swapon Deep Kundu fell from the three-story building of the hostel during the night due to suspected reasons and passed away.

Biography : - 

Swapan Deep Kundu was born on November 5, 2004, in the Hanskhali area of Nadia district. After completing his primary education, he enrolled in Jadavpur University, a renowned university in Kolkata, and pursued a Bachelor's  degree in Bengali. He used to reside in the university hostel.

Swapon Dweep is a child from a Hindu family in Kunda Nadiya district. In his family, there is his father, his mother, and his maternal uncle.

Education : - 

Swapon Dweep completed his higher secondary education from a local high school in Kunda Nadiya. Currently, he is studying for a Bachelor's degree in Bengali at Jadavpur University to pursue higher education.

Cause of death / Aftermath : - 

Swapnadwip Kundu is a resident of Nadia district and completed higher secondary from local School in Nadia. Then came to Calcutta for higher education. Jadavpur University, a very famous university in Calcutta, was admitted with a Bengali degree, the first class was in Bengali on Wednesday. Swapnadeep Kund was present in the class, he liked the class. Later, Swapnadwip Kundur died on Wednesday night.

Other residents of the hostel claimed that around 10:45 on Wednesday night, they heard something heavy falling, came out of the room and saw their classmate Sapna Deep Kundu lying in a bloody state.

He was immediately taken to the local private nursing home KPC, he died at 4 am on Thursday after a long struggle. His family was then contacted, and Jadavpur University authorities lodged a complaint with Jadavpur police station. According to the preliminary investigation by the police, Swapna Deep Kundur died after somehow falling from the third floor balcony of the main hostel of the university.

His family told the police that Swapnadweep spoke to his mother on Tuesday night. He says to his mother "Mother I am not well, you come soon, I have a lot to talk with you". Then suddenly his phone cut off, despite repeated attempts he could not be found on his phone. Then in the morning, the news of the son's fall and death came to the family.

His family does not consider this incident as suicide. His family claims the university was ganging up on him. His family has written to the university authorities and requested an investigation on Thursday.

Governor CV Ananda Bose comment : - 

State Governor CV Anand Bose went to the university hostel on Thursday evening to take stock of the situation. The governor first went to the hostel. Then goes to the university campus. He said, I have spoken to the hostel authorities and university professors and the matter is very clear. But it is clear that something frightening or threatening happened in the student's mind which affected his mind. The truth will come out through investigation.

Postmortem report : - 

The police received the autopsy report on Thursday evening. According to reports, he suffered a laceration to the head, broken ribs in the chest and a broken back due to the fall from a greater height. As a result, student Sapna Deep Kundur died.

Family Aligation : - 

Swapnadeep's family blamed university ragging as the cause of his death. His uncle Arup said that when he came from home he was physically and mentally healthy, he called home that he was happy to come to the university and take classes. Will he jump from the roof like this? Of course ragging was done with him in the hostel. We want fair justice, the guilty should be punished.

Police investigation : - 

The police of Jadavpur police station have started an investigation to find out how Swapnadeep died. Officials of Lalbazar Intelligence Department went to the hostel along with the police on Thursday. There the students were interrogated, three students were sent to the police station and their statements were recorded. Police have started investigating the unusual death case.

On August 1st Monday afternoon, the police and forensic team went to Jadavpur University hostel and recreated the incident with wooden dolls. Taking a wooden doll of the height and weight of the dead student Swapnadwip, an attempt was made to reconstruct the incident by dropping the doll from three floors.

Jaydeep Ghosh, currently the head of the Bengali department of Jadavpur University, said that the first year students had classes for three days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Attended class every day, did not behave abnormally. Professor Jaydev Ghosh interacted with the students on the arrival of the new year on Wednesday and also took some pictures. The university did not behave abnormally or say anything different when they asked if they were having any problems.

Rajeshwar Sinhar, a teacher of Bengali department of the university, said that the matter should be treated as ragging and an E-FIR should be filed immediately. Swapnadwip himself came to study Bengali with love. He called his mother and told her about it. Even then, how did this happen?

Asking for a specific haircut, having to check into the hostel by 6 pm, constant firemash for seniors, staying up all night to take the intro (I hear the actual intro hasn't been taken yet). These three nights have been going on with me, and I am afraid

Jadavpur University is the most democracy fighting university for me. Where every student knows how to protest against injustice, they lead the way. But the power structure of the society, the number of guru religion over the number of minority. Men on women, high caste on low caste in our country. Powerful seniors (backed by union leaders) to juniors.

My experience was no different.

I have heard many stories about the main hostel. Stories of helping flood victims, standing by the side of helpless people during Quarantine. All day and night siege against Nana Dadagiri of Jadavpur police station. I believe most of the grandfathers in the main hostel carry this fighting tradition. But for some I lost my classmate. I call upon the conscious and sensitive fellow-grandfathers to lead the way in the struggle to dismantle this raging display of naked power, as they have done in other crises. And union leadership for two or four votes to walk away from the compromise that would keep this power center alive. Otherwise there is no real difference between Trinamool BJP and CPM. They are giving support to Hindutva pluralism to save the vote bank and here two 'votes will go around' are openly fostering power-rape (sadistic pleasure) attitude. Today, I have not seen any propaganda from the union, but I have heard such incidents that after putting rags in the big field, the union elders asked to compromise like a shell.
